Dell 2950 Slide Rails
There are several Slide Rail options available as an alternative to the Dell OEM Slide Rail Kit. Each solution has it’s own unique advantages. If cost is a factor, which it always is, then the 2UBRK-2950 is the most economical of the solutions. This product is a simple bracket that supports the server in the rack, however it does not have ball-bearing slide rails like the other two products.
The QUICKRAIL-2950 has ball-bearing slide rails and complete cable management. The only difference between these two slide rail kits is the method of attachment. The QUICKRAIL-2950 is almost a tool-less installation but is only compatible with square hole racks.
Rail Type | Hole Type | Mounting Depth | Overall Depth | Part Number | Dell SKU |
Sliding | Square | 25 1/4″ to 31″ | 29 5/8″ or 30 7/8″ | QUICKRAIL-2950 | A0952773 |
Non-Sliding | All Types | 3″ to 30″ | 29 3/8″ to 30″ | 2UBRK-2950 | A0705182 |
Dell 2950 Relay Rack Kit
Dell does not make an OEM 2Post Slide Rail Kit for the 2950. It is possible to use the OEM 4Post Slide Rail Kit in a 2Post Relay Rack by utilizing a 2Post Conversion Kit. This Conversion Kit is a set of four brackets that provide the corner attachments that the OEM Slide Rail Kit requires. The Conversion Kits can be used with any 3rd Party or Dell OEM Slide Rail Kit.
The 2UBRK-2950 does not require any additional products. This rail kit does not telescope out like the ball-bearing slide rails. This is the most economical and versatile method of installing a 2950. This kit will install into any type of rack.
Rail Type | Mounting Depth | Overall Depth | Part Number | Dell SKU |
Sliding | 3″ Uprights | 29 5/8″ or 30 7/8″ | QUICKRAIL-2950 | A0952773 + A0421207 |
Non-Sliding | 3″ to 30″ | 29 3/8″ to 30″ | 2UBRK-2950 | A0705182 |
Dell PowerEdge 2950 Rack Rails: Why won’t my PE2950 Sliding Rails fit into my Standard Server Rack?
Dell has a different Rail Kit for the PE2950. The main Slide Rail is configurable for both square hole server racks as well as round hole server racks. This configuration option is achieved by a rotating assembly on the ends of the slide rails.
- It’s this rotating assembly that causes the first problem. There are levers and mechanisms and things sticking out that get in the way when you try to install the new Rack Rails.
- The second problem is the actual installation depth required by the PE2950.
PE2950: length of rail – 31.7- cable management assembly – 3.5″
- front bezel – 1.5″
- required front air space – 1″The physical installation depth of the PE2950 is 37.7″.
- The third problem is the installation depth range of the slide rails. This is not the physical depth but the range that the rails can be installed in PE2950: 26.8″ to 29.3″
The physical depth and the installation depth range can cause issues with some Server Racks that cannot accommodate the equipment.
Dell PE2950 Third Party Rail Kits
Dell redesigned the rail kits for the PE2950, adding brackets to the ends which allow installation into round or square hole racks. The brackets actually spin around for both scenarios.
Unfortunately, these rails are not compatible with several of the third party racks and even cause problems with older Dell enclosures. The depth range of the rail kits is not always compatible with these racks. Also, the size of the brackets can conflict with the rack especially if the posts are a “C” channel.
The rather large cable management arm will not allow the doors to close on a lot of enclosures as well.
If the Dell rails are not compatible with your racks, take a look at other dell poweredge 2950 sliding and non sliding rail kits available.
