If you have ever worked in IT, you’ve had cabling issues! Everyone has their own theories about the best way to manage cables. A current topic of discussion is the use of cable management arms (CMA). The IT industry is split with many people arguing for the use of CMA, and just as many against them.
The group that do not advocate using CMA’s believe they interfere with air flow. This group believes the metal CMA arm blocks air flow, making the unit run hotter. Another issue with CMA is the concern that the CMA increases install time and that the value of the CMA does not offset the incremental cost.
The Pro-CMA group believes that using CMA saves a lot of time when you need to service the unit. The CMA improves the ease of sliding a server out of the rack to assist in easily tracing cables from the unit to the power source.
At Rack Solutions, we manufacture cable management arms in both 1U and 2U sizes. The CMA is easy to install, works with most equipment and is compatible with any rack hole type. If you prefer other cable management options, we have alternatives as well. We make a cable management bar that attaches to the back of your rack. This will work with sliding equipment and it slotted for different ways of securing cable with the use of zip ties and hook-and-loop straps. Both of these cable management products can be found at RackSolutions.
