What is a Lift Gate?
A liftgate is a hydraulic platform located at the rear of a truck or freight carrier. This mechanical device is designed to bridge the gap between the ground level and the cargo level.
Additionally, a lift gate is necessary in specific circumstances because it simplifies and ensures safe handling of heavy loads or large cargo quantities during delivery. Here are some scenarios where a lift gate is crucial:
- No Loading Dock: If the delivery location does not have a loading dock, a lift gate is necessary for loading and unloading items from the vehicle to the ground.
- Heavy or Bulk Items: Large and heavy items that are difficult to unload manually will require a lift gate to prevent damage and reduce the risk of injury.
- Limited Staff or Equipment: If there are not enough people or equipment at the delivery location to help unload large items, a lift gate ensures that the delivery can still be completed without the extra manpower.
- Residential Deliveries: For residential areas where unloading heavy equipment is typically unavailable, a lift gate offers a convenient and efficient solution for handling deliveries.
How do I add Lift Gate service?
Previously, the Lift Gate option was available directly on the product page. Now, for orders that qualify for freight shipping, you will be prompted to provide this information during checkout.
For example, the RS148 Data Center Server Cabinet qualifies for freight shipping. When a freight-eligible product is added to your cart, the Lift Gate option will be available as you proceed through checkout and fill out your shipping information.
If you select NO to “Do you have a loading dock?”, the Lift Gate fee will automatically be added to your order summary.
